This month on The Writers’ Kitchen (found on SoulPancake) we’re talking about the D word – Discipline!
How many of you just thought of pain, drudgery, exhaustion or the opposite of creativity?
I used to think of discipline that way too until I realized that the art of improving my skill could not only benefit my craft but my life as well. Discipline is an act of self-love.
I’m inspired by the comments left of my post. This one from Rapunzel28 sums up discipline nicely.
Discipline is simply knowing what to say ‘no’ to and what to say ‘yes’ to.
To me, discipline is an ongoing cycle of learning, reflecting, acting and sharing. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s work, sometimes it’s unpleasant – but that’s life, no? Of course we will make mistakes and that’s okay so long as we grow from those mistakes. We can choose to thrive or not. It really is that easy.
